During the CloudNative StartupFest co-located event, Nicholas Gottlieb (VP of Marketing at Dragonfly) discussed the current licensing strategies available to open-source startups and what the tradeoffs are in terms of both community adoption and monetization. In addition to discussing classic open source licenses (Apache, MIT, etc.) and the newer business source licenses (BSL), we have also discussed the various business models that most often accompany each of these licensing strategies using real-world public examples.
